Highlights: Tirta Empul Temple

According to the legend, the spring was created by the God Indra, when his forces had been poisoned Mayadanawa he then drilled a hole in the ground to arouse his forces, and this hole with water is the fountain of “immortality” with its own healing powers.

Tirta Empul  (a Hindu Temple in Bali) means “crystal clear stream” where Balinese go to immerse themselves and be healed. Balinese visits and take a bath on one of the three pools once a year. The people immerse themselves in the holy water of Tirta Empul to their health and happiness as well as to cleanse their soul, the water is also used for cleansing rituals.

This  was built in the year 962 during the Warmadewa dynasty.

There is a proper dress code when visiting the sacred temple. if you are girl, your hair must be tied all up , and anyone who wants to enter the temple must wear a “sarong” which is available just right outside of the temple without any charges (donations will do). If you have your period, as per respect to the Gods, you must not bathe in the holy water.

So excited to show you some snapshots of my visit to the Sacred Temple!

The dress code sign is so big that you will notice it easily!

34  Tirta Empul is located at Manukaya, Tampaksiring, Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia

Also, if you are planning to buy some souvenir items at a cheaper price compared to Kuta and Seminyak, might as well go for some shopping right outside of the temple. The price is so incomparable!

It was a life-changing trip,  I felt like the girl on the “Eat-Pray-Love” best-selling book.  It gave me a new perspective in life, a wider view, a different angle, a different kind of breather. It is something that I will truly cherish forever, I may visit tons of countries, but Bali has a special place in my heart. I’ve learned so many lessons from Balinese people and their religion, and here are some of them:

  • Believe in Karma
  • Always do good even if others are not
  • Do something good now that your future self will thank you
